Materials: J & P Coats Big Ball Best Six Cord Mercerized Crochet, Art. A.104, Size 100; or Clark’s ONT Best Six Cord Mercerized Crochet, Art. B.4, Size 100: Milwards Steel Crochet Hook No. 16.
FIRST MOTIF: Starting at center, ch 10. Join with sl st to form ring.
1st Rnd: Ch 4, 7 tr in ring, (ch 3, 8 tr in ring) 3 times; ch 3. Join to top of ch-4.
2nd Rnd: Ch 4, (dc in next tr, ch l) 6 times; dc in next tr, * ch 5, (dc in next tr, ch 1) 7 times; dc in next tr. Repeat from * around. Join to 3rd ch of ch-4. Now work pineapples individually as follows:
FIRST PINEAPPLE: 1st Row: Sl st in next sp, sc in same sp, (ch 3, sc in next sp) 6 times. Ch 5, turn.
2nd Row: Sc in first loop, (ch 3, sc in next ch-3 loop) 5 times. Ch 5, turn.
3rd Row: Sc in first loop, (ch 3, sc in next ch-3 loop) 4 times. Ch 5, turn.
4th - 6th Rows: Work as for last row, having 1 ch-3 loop less on each row (1 ch-3 loop on 6th row). Ch 5, turn. Sc in ch-3 loop. Break off.
SECOND PINEAPPLE: With right side of center facing, attach thread to first ch-1 sp of next group, sc in same place, (ch 3, sc in next sp) 6 times. Ch 5, turn. Complete as for First Pineapple. Make 2 more pineapples. At end of last pineapple ch 3, turn; dc in ch-3 loop, do not break off.
EDGING: Ch 12, working along side of pineapple, * (dc in next ch-5 loop, ch 7) twice; holding back on hook the last loop of each tr, make tr in next ch-5 loop and first ch-5 loop on next pineapple, thread over and draw through all loops on hook (joint tr made); (ch 7, dc in next ch-5 loop) twice; ch 9 (corner sp). Repeat from * around. Join to 3rd ch of ch-12. Break off.
SECOND MOTIF: Work as for First Motif until 4 pineapples have been completed.
EDGING: Ch 8, sl st in any corner sp on First Motif, ch 4, (dc in next ch-5 loop on Second Motif, ch 3, sl st in next sp on First Motif, ch 3) twice; make a joint tr over next 2 ch-5 loops, join next 2 sps as before, ch 4, sl st in next corner sp on First Motif, ch 4 and complete rnd (no more joinings).
Make desired number of motifs, joining adjacent sides as Second Motif was joined to First Motif (where 4 corners meet, join 3rd and 4th corners to joining of previous 2 corners).
