Baby Set - Sweater - Bonnet - Booties & Afghan - Free Patterns


Baby Set - Afghan, Bonnet, Booties, Jacket





MATERIALS: Baby Yarn: 3 ply, 16 oz.color A and 1 oz. color B. Size 2 bone crochet hook (equivalent to 2.20 mm hook). Set is worked in color A except for trim on sleeves of jacket.

AFGHAN
Ch 173. Work back and forth in sc for 44 rows for center strip; ch 5, turn. Work 1 dtr in first st, * ch 2, skip 2 sts, 1 dtr in next st, ch 2, skip 2, 1 dtr in each of next 2 sts; repeat from * across row; ch 1, turn.
Row 1: Work 1 sc in each st; ch 1, turn.
Row 2: Skip first st, * 1 sc, ch 1, 1 sc in next st, skip 2 sts; repeat from * across row; ch 3, turn.
Row 3: Work 3 dc in each ch 1 space. Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows 12 times. Work other side to correspond.
Border
Work 7 rows of sc around entire cover, working 3 sc in each corner st.
Edging
Work in pattern (Rows 2 and 3) twice, around entire cover; do not skip any sts at corners. Repeat Row 2 once. Fasten off.

JACKET
Yoke
Ch 51. Work back and forth in dc for 9 rows, then work over first 15 sts. Increase 1 st at neck edge only, on each row for 9 rows. Fasten off. Omitting 18 sts for back of neck, attach yarn and work other side to correspond. Join front and back of yoke at underarm with a ch of 8. Starting at left front edge, work back and forth in patterns as given for carriage cover, for 8 in. Fasten off.
Sleeve (make 2)
Starting at center of underarm ch, work back and forth in pattern for 6 in. (do not close sleeve).
Work 6 rows of sc for cuff. Fasten off. With color B, work 1 row of picot sts all around edge of jacket and cuffs. Sew sleeve seams.

BONNET
Ch 3, join with a sl st to form a ring.
Row 1: Work 6 sc in ring.
Row 2: Work 2 sc in each st.
Row 3: * 1 sc in each of first 2 sts, 1 dc in 2nd st of previous row; repeat from * for 1 row.
Row 4: * 1 sc in each of the first 3 sts, 1 dc around the post of the dc of previous row, inserting hook sideways; repeat from * for 1 row. Continue increasing 1 st in each gore for 16 rows. Omitting 1 gore for back of neck, work back and forth on remaining gores for 3 1\2". Work 5 rows of sc across front edge. Work 1 row of sc across neck edge, skipping every 3rd st. Work 4 rows of sc, st for st, for neckband. Fasten off. Turn back on first row of sc and work 2 rows of shell st. Fasten off.

BOOTIES
Ch 12. Work back and forth in sc for 10 rows. Ch 28. Join to beginning of last row. Work 9 rows of sc around 3 sides of square and the 28 ch. Fasten off and sew tog. across bottom. Starting at center of back on top of boot, work back and forth in pattern for 3 in. Work 1 row of shell st. Fasten off. Sew back seam.

Size 5 crochet cotton and size 7 steel crochet hook

Ch 7 and join to form a ring.

Row 2: 22 tr into ring, join.

Row 3: Ch 6, sk 1, 1 dc into 2nd, ch 2 and work 1 dc into 4th and continue in this manner, always skipping 1.

Row 4: Ch 15, sk 3 and work 12 dc into the long chain, fasten with sc on top of dc of 3rd Row. This forms a petal. Repeat around.

Row 5: Same as Row 4 except instead of fastening the 12 dc on top of the 3rd Row, fasten it into the space at the back of Row 3. Repeat around. After finishing the last petal, work back with a sl st on the first petal or 5th row until you reach the point.

Row 6. *Ch 5, 1 sc into point of next petal of Row 4. Ch 5, 1 sc into the point of petal of row 5. Repeat from *.

Row 7: Ch 3, 3 dc into chain of previous row, ch 3. Repeat in every space.

Row 8: Work 1 set of picots (ch 5, 1 sc in 2nd from start. Ch 6, 1 sc in 3rd, ch 1) and fasten with 1 sc into 1st space of previous row.

Row 9: Same as Row 8 except make shorter by leaving out 5 sets of picots at end of row. Turn.

Rows 10 - 16: Work same as for Row 9.

Row 17: Work as for Row 9 except in the back of the bonnet make only one picot instead of a set of picots. This will draw in the bonnet at the back for proper shaping.

Row 18: 1 dc, ch 3 for picot, 1 dc, ch 3 for picot, 1 dc (first scallop now made). Repeat around. Fasten off and attach ribbon for ties as desired. If you wish, fashion a small rosette ribbon bow and sew to the side of the bonnet as shown in the picture. Lovely!
